First year primary pupils need good teachers

Bad experiences in reception year can blight a child's education, but schools often concentrate best staff on Sat students

Having a bad teacher in the first year at primary school can blight a child’s entire education, researchers have found. They discovered the effect of having an exceptionally poor — or unusually good — teacher in the reception year was still detectable six years later. The findings suggest many pupils are being betrayed by schools that, in an effort to rise up the national league tables, concentrate their best teachers on pupils about to take their Sats tests at the age of 11. “More effort needs to be spent on the most valuable years, which are the earliest years,” said Peter Tymms, professor of education at Durham University, who led the study, which is published in the journal Educational Assessment, Evaluation and Accountability.
It has long been argued that a pupil’s ability to learn concepts such as language and mathematics is at its greatest when the child is very young. Some primary schools, however, concentrate teaching on the later years when the results can most obviously be seen in exam scores.
Other research has shown that the most difficult years in a child’s education can be the first years at secondary school, exacerbating any disadvantage they have suffered in their primary school.

Nowadays we have many ways of entertainment for example go to some places as ciemna, disco or play some sports, eating etc. It depends on our preferences, how we want to spend our free time. We would like to show a few of them, which are interesting according to our research.

First of all, many people like spending their time in theater. But not everybody is able to attend in plays f. ex. deaf people. Millions of them in the USA are unable to fully enjoy films and live theatre performances. In 1997, a New York reporter came up with a way to help. His idea was to provide ‘real time’ sub-titles wich can be read by deaf people while they watch the performance. How is this done? The dialogue of the play is typed into a computer befor the show. During the performance, a Professional computer operator sits near the stage. He listens to the actors and displays the dialogue on a screen as the actors say their lines. People In hearing problems sit In specialty reserved seats near the screen, and the letters are big enough to be read easily. The idea has been very successful in New York. Now Peter Paulan, a partially deaf British businessman, has brought the system to Britain. He hopes to persuade theatre companies to rent or buy it. Deaf people should be able to enjoy the theatre like everyone else.

The most popular entertainment among going people is karaoke. Everyone knows that karaoke comes Frome Japan, but it is not the Japanese for ‘drunk and tone-deaf’ as you might think! It actually means ‘empty orchestra’. It all started in a small music bar in the city of Kobe. One night when the usual guitarist didn’t turn up, the desperate bar owner recorded some music and invited his customers to sing instead. The craze soon spread, and special karaoke machines were invented. The idea was that however badly you sang everyone applauded at the end, and it proved the perfect way for stressed Japanese businessman to unwind.

Today, just twenty years after it started in Kobe, you can find karaoke bars all over the Word. It’s so popular in China that restaurants normally have several karaoke machines going at the same time. These days, you can hire karaoke machines that not only play music and videos, but also have smoke machines, laser lights, and even dancers and a DJ to accompany you, while you make-belive for a few minutes that you a star. As one karaoke fan put it, ‘it something everyone should try at least once in their lifes’.

For many people internet seems to be comfortable and safe way of communication. There is some voices promoting a super open attitude to internet society. This involves revelation of personal data like phone number and address. Although followers of this solution may say that no secrets mean no opportunity to harm, there is a lie at the bottom of the idea. Internet society still gathers a large amount of anonymous folks – also hackers, frauds, and stalkers.

Year after year cyber criminals become more sophisticated in their actions. They are cheating not only better and better anti-virus programs, firewall and other security software but also naïve internet users. That is why Tom Liston, a senior security consultant with Intelguardians (a Washington-based Internet security consulting group) claimed in 2007: "The attackers are now following the same path that businesses have, in trying to advertise themselves in their own special way on the more popular Web sites. Some of them can use a malicious video or audio content to persuade viewers into opening “backdoors” into their own systems and by that holes to control machines. There is also a practice of “lifetime e-mails occasions” for example West African Scam, called also as Nigerian Advance Fee Fraud or 419 Fraud. This scam is delivered mostly to wealthy, middle class, middle age businessmen. Even if it seems to be apparently bogus still the scam can be seen growing effectiveness and reach. This happens because large amount of people believe they have been singled out from masses to share countless profits, without any effort.

Scammers win viewers confidence by using or creating an important government “officials”, their relatives, religious figures and Nigerian National Petroleum Corp employees or workers from other West African countries . They often make grammatical and spelling mistakes to reassure victims by creating a sensation of intellectual superiority, sympathy. E-mails are written in capital letters, have foreign exotic stamps, are addressed to “COE” or “president” rather than a specific name and grips a sense of urgency.

The cheater often describes lucrative, illegal deal, which do not contain a risk to potential dupe. The victim is asked to distant participate in getting the money out of Nigeria or other West African country by using him/her as a conduit who will benefit at this cooperation. Sometimes the business makes waves of legal action. This may be Will Scam, the Real Estate Scam and Scholarship Scam.

No doubts that this is only a beginning of escalation of requests such as transfer tax, a variety of processing, licensing or registration fees and others. Victim's individual monetary losses can range from the low thousands into multi-millions. There are also cases of murder, suicide and some psychological traumatic reactions connected with financial losses or bankrupts.

There is one more danger to describe – cyber stalking, a new way of harassment. We can trace sushi's origin back to the 4th century BC in Southeast Asia. As a preserved food, the salted fish, fermented with rice, was an important source of protein. The cleaned and gutted fish were kept in rice so that the natural fermentation of the rice helped preserve the fish. This type of sushi is called nare-zushi, and was taken out of storage after a couple of months of fermentation, and then only the fish was consumed while the rice was discarded.

Over time, it spread throughout China, and later, around the 8th century AD, in the Heian period, it was introduced into Japan. Since Japanese preferred to eat rice together with fish, the sushi, called seisei-zushi, became popular at the end of Muromachi period. This type of sushi was consumed while the fish was still partly raw and the rice had not lost its flavor. In this way, sushi became more of a cuisine rather than a way to preserve food.

Later in Edo era, Japanese began making haya-zushi, which was created as a way to eat both rice and fish; this dish was unique to Japanese culture. Instead of being only used for fermentation, rice was mixed with vinegar and combined not only with fish but also with various vegetables and dried preserved foods. Today, each region of Japan still preserves its own unique taste by utilizing local products in making different kinds of sushi that have been passed on for generations.

At the beginning of the19th century, when Tokyo was still called Edo, the food service industry was mostly dominated by mobile food stalls, from which nigiri-zushi originated. Edomae, which literally means "in front of Tokyo bay," was where the fresh fish and tasty seaweed for the nigiri-zushi were obtained. As a result, it was also called edomae-zushi, and it became popular among the people in Edo after Yohei Hanaya, a creative sushi chief, improved it to a simple but delicious food. Then, after the Great Kanto earthquake in 1923, nigiri sushi spread throughout Japan as the skilled edomae-zushi chefs from Edo, who had lost their jobs, were diffused all over Japan.
